1. Times of India: 3/5 by Rachit. Visit site for more

The same inconsistency plagues the movie, too. At one point, Zero dazzles with moments of colour and vibrancy, but then it also follows up with dull scenes that fail to launch the drama in the zone that it’s supposed to be in. Some of the comedy moments between SRK and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub stand out, so does the song Mere Naam Tu with SRK dancing in a storm of colours. While the film has a wealth of references to Bollywood and its stars, these details don’t compensate for a story that starts with a beautiful plot, but takes off on a bizarre ride. At first go, the film makes you light and easy, which is good, but the problem is that it doesn’t really take you on that flight of entertainment, which you set out for

2. Indian Express: 1/5 by Shubhra Gupta. Visit site for more

The trouble with Zero is not just that the mini-me SRK is just SRK minus the inches. Every twitch is familiar: the tousled hair, commonplace air, the regular joe who wears ‘kachcha-banian’. We saw this SRK last in Fan. In that one, we bought him. In Zero, we don’t, because Bauua is always the Hero, accompanied by a best friend (Ayyub) whose only job is to prop him (Bauua) up, who is enmeshed in a love triangle, who soars over his difficulties while singing and dancing and romancing. That vertically challenged bit should have been the differentiator. But it’s nothing but window dressing, a hook on which hangs nothing.

3. Koimoi: 3/5 by Umesh Punwani. Visit site for more

Travelling on the experimental path, Shah Rukh Khan as Bauua Singh is definitely one of the best performances of the year. Not just the delivery of the dialogues, let’s appreciate also the physical humour Shah has managed to bring on the table despite the heavy dosage of VFX.  Bauua is a multilayered character & his graph ranges from being very cute to extremely selfish. His act is a blazing display of bravura. Shah Rukh Khan as Bauua Singh makes sure you leave the cinema halls with a smile on your face.  The first half has some of the wittiest dialogues to come out of Bollywood. Watch this one for stellar performances, arresting cinematography & uproarious dialogues.

4. Mumbai Mirror: 2.5/5 by Kunal Guha. Visit site for more

Building a story around a character with a handicap or a birth deformity is always a challenge. Does he dwell in self-pity? Can he look beyond his inabilities and cherish life for what it’s worth like Nana Patekar from Khamoshi: The Musical? This film’s Bauaa basks in his own buffoonery and has a bloated and misguided self-worth that makes him more abominable than adorable. Without giving away the film’s mind-bending plot, in some way, he even wrongs the female lead in question. And yet, we’re expected to pray that things fall in his favour in the end? Surely, the who signed off on this one was being short-sighted.

Zero Story:

Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan) is a vertically-challenged man from Meerut, who wears his heart on his sleeve. He falls in love with a scientist, Aafia (Anushka Sharma), who is affected by cerebral palsy. Their unlikely love story travels from India to the US and all the way to outer space too. Along the way, it meets with various interesting challenges as well.
