#PadMan showed GOOD TRENDING over the weekend… Starting on ordinary levels, the momentum over the weekend helped put up a credible total… Word of mouth is strong… Weekdays are crucial… Fri 10.26 cr, Sat 13.68 cr, Sun 16.11 cr. Total: ₹ 40.05 cr. India biz.— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) February 12, 2018
Most of the critics have given a thumbs up to the films, words of the mouth is also good, the film is expected to collect decently during the weekdays. Earlier, the film was supposed to release on Republic Day along with Padmaavat starring Deepika Padukon, Ranveer Singh and Sahid Kapoor. However, Akshay Kumar postponed the release of the movie on the request of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, director of Padmaavat, which had been facing lot of troubles since its shooting in Rajasthan.
The movie is based on a short story “The Sanitary Man on Sacred Land” from Twinkle Khanna’s book “ The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad” . The short story is inspired from the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham who is a social activist from Tamilnadu. He revolutionized the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating sanitary napkin machine. The machine manufactures very low cost sanitary napkin which can be reached out to a wider section of the society. The film’s main agenda was to create awareness and eradicate the existing superstitions in India on sanitary pad. Akshay Kumar plays the role of Arunachalam Muruganantham, also known by “India’s Menstrual Man”. Akshay Kumar was the first choice the do the role, Twinkle Khanna thought of several actors but she finally handed it to his Husban, Akshay Kumar after Murugan’s insistence.
The Movie is facing tough competition from Padmaavat which has already crossed Rs. 200 crore and still collecting decently. It would not be fair to compare Padmaavat of extravaganza budget of Rs. 150 crore with PadMan for paltry budget of Rs. 20 crore. It is only Akshay Kumar who can be given credit making it happened. For last several years, Whatever film Akshay Kumar has been doing, it has turned out to be a successful. It remains to be seen how much the movie can collect, whether the Movie can cross Rs. 100 crore, the time only tell you.
